General InformationOrganisation is underway for the 13th International Conference on
Quantitative Methods for the Environmental Sciences. The meeting will be held on
21-26 August 2005 at the Friendship Hotel in Beijing, China. Mark the dates

BackgroundThe main purposes of this international conference are to promote the development and application of quantitative methods in environmental assessment, and to devise a mechanism for maintaining regular contacts among statisticians, mathematicians and environmental scientists.ScopeThe scope of the meeting includes quantitative (statistical and mathematical) methods and their applications for the understanding, assessment, and solution of environmental problems in areas such as:
VisasAn official invitation letter will be issued to those who have returned the final Registration Form. With this letter, you can go to the nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate to apply for entry visa(s). To allow ample time for a successful visa application, you are kindly requested to return the final Registration Form before July 10th. We can not guarantee registration and visa applications will be processed if registrations are received after 10th July. If any problem arises, please contact the Conference Secretariat for assistance. We encourage all participants to register for the conference as EARLY as possible to avoid disappointment. Currency ExchangeIn China, only RMB is used. However, exchange centers can be found at airports, most hotels and large shopping centers. When exchanging money, please keep your receipt by which you can change any remaining RMB back to foreign currency when leaving China. Visa, Master, American Express, Diners Club, JCB, and other credit cards are accepted in many department stores and hotels. But it might be difficult to draw cash with credit cards. The Bank of China and most hotels can cash travelers cheques issued by any foreign bank or financial institution. Participants will need to show a passport and pay a 0.75 percent commission. Travelers cheques signed over to a third party cannot be cashed in China, but can be presented for collection through the Bank of China.
