The area of the Indian Ocean in square kilometres.

The Indian Ocean Climate Initiative (IOCI) has been set up by the Western Australian Government to provide a greater understanding of the state's climate, which is strongly influenced by the Indian and Southern Oceans.

CSIRO's Hydro-Climate Informatics Group is contributing statistical science expertise to the research program.
