Vegetation History44

The molecular weight of carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas produced by human activities such as land clearing.

Analysing satellite data, CSIRO scientists can monitor landcover change on a national scale - an important input into the National Carbon Accounting System (NCAS) which is administered by the Australian Greenhouse Office.

"Over the last two decades, we've developed mathematical methods for integrating remotely sensed and other spatial/temporal data to improve estimates of landcover change", says Dr Peter Caccetta.

These methods have transformed large archives of data into information
useful for environmental management.
