'SolarScan' for Earlier Skin Cancer Detection

Image Analysis software analyses a skin spot, then'segments' it to 'extract' features. This is a melanoma.
Download hires JPG (306Kb)

CSIRO image analysis software automatically analyses a skin spot. It first 'segments'
the image to find such things as the edges of the spot. Next, various
'features' are 'extracted' - here the colours have been quantified
and mapped. This is a melanoma.

Networked haptics will allow users in several locations to feel computer-generated objects such as body organs which means a surgeon could train many students in different cities at the same time.

Networked virtual environment technology, developed by CSIRO scientists, combines 3D images with an artificial sense of touch, known as "haptics".
