23 December 1999 - Awesome new supercomputer for CSIRO, Bureau of Meteorology - Australian science will have its fastest supercomputer this week. A new NEC SX-5 supercomputer will be installed in Melbourne and used by climate researchers, weather forecasters, drug designers, polymer chemists and atmospheric scientists from CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology.

15 December 1999 - Experts predict our gadgets in 2020 - Spectacles that help you talk to your office computer, smart cards that contain a children's cartoon for TV and microchips that can help you think better or monitor your heartbeat are examples of possible future technologies highlighted at a special seminar in Sydney yesterday.

14 December 1999 - CSIRO brings great graphics to the web - CSIRO has now made it possible to see a new standard of high quality graphics over the Internet. CSIRO scientists have developed an Internet based viewer for a new form of graphic, called Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). SVGs give better results than the more familiar graphics such as JPEG or GIF in that they remain clear no matter how much you zoom in to the image.

25 November 1999 - Medals: Minerals, Pure Water, Road Maintenance - CSIRO Medals for 1999 have been awarded to teams involved in new thickener technology for minerals processing, purifying water, and detecting cracks in roads.

14 April 1999 - Content blocking on the Internet - Blocking access to certain Internet material by Internet service providers or 'backbone' providers will be largely ineffective, a recent CSIRO report has concluded.

13 April 1999 - Meeting magic brings order out of chaos - New software from CSIRO can schedule up to 50,000 meetings at a single big event. The software, called SATE, can create meeting schedules which allow for the preferences of participants, and satisfies constraints of venue floor plan, session times, facilities available, and so on.

26 March 1999 - CSIRO and ACSys join TV/Internet trial - The future of home entertainment - a combination of television and the Internet - comes one step closer today as residents of a Canberra suburb begin taking part in a new trial. [99/55]
