7 November 2000 - Making the internet safer for kids - One of the Internet’s most popular features – Newsgroups - can now be made safer for children. CSIRO’s recently launched Newsgroup software, Oz Insight, now includes password-control, giving parents control over which Newsgroups their children can access. The software will be on display next week in the United States at a major Internet show.

5 September 2000 - Virtual soccer stars play a serious game -In the face of some tough international competition, CSIRO's Cyberoos finished a credible 9th in the Simulation League of the 4th Robot World Cup (RoboCup) in Melbourne last week.

17 August 2000 - Flying lab to map Australia - A major airborne scientific mission using state-of-the-art equipment to map landforms and vegetation in large areas of Australia is about to be carried out by CSIRO and UNSW in conjunction with NASA. 29 March 2000 - Queen sees virtual surgery at new hi-tech centre - Virtual reality technology that could allow future trainee surgeons to practise on "virtual patients" will be on show for the Queen at the opening of ctec, the world's most advanced centre for medical and surgical skills.

28 March 2000 - Sky scanner sees the forest and the trees - Airborne systems that can peer deep into forest canopies to assess their biomass, structure and condition are under development by CSIRO. The Vegetation Canopy Lidar (or light radar) is expected to revolutionise the task of measuring Australia's forest stocks, says Dr David Jupp, head of CSIRO's Office of Space Science and Applications (COSSA) and Earth Observation Centre (EOC).

14 March 2000 - CSIRO's world-leading software upgraded - CSIRO has added new features to its cutting-edge engineering software, Fastflo Version 3 has just been released. Fastflo will be one of the world leading Australian technologies on display at the Hannover Trade Fair in Germany next week.

3 March 2000 - Electric shock at Melbourne Motor Show - aXcessaustralia has an electric shock in store for visitors to the Melbourne International Motor Show, which starts on 3 March 2000 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

10 February 2000 - Seeing more, colourfully, from space - Australian researchers will play an important role as NASA takes a new look at the earth from space. NASA's latest satellite, the Earth Observing-1 satellite, set for launch in May, will contain the 'Hyperion' imaging equipment – the first of its kind in space and a pioneer of a new period of advanced imaging.

25 February 2000 - Virtual Reality to help train surgeons - Trainee surgeons of the future will be able to practise doing delicate operations before they ever touch a living patient.
