Professor Ian Sloan, Chair, International Program Committee

Ian Sloan, a Scientia Professor at the University of New South Wales, began his research career in theoretical nuclear and atomic physics, before changing to numerical analysis in the mid 1970s. Since then he has published extensively in the numerical solution of integral and differential equations, boundary integral methods, and high dimensional integration and approximation. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, immediate past President of the Australian Mathematical Society, and a former Chair of the Australian Research Council's Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics panel. He has a keen interest in persuading young people and their parents of the vital role of mathematics in modern society.
