Professor Neville de Mestre, representative of ANZIAM

Professor Neville de Mestre was educated at the University of Sydney, the University of Western Australia and the University of New South Wales. He is currently Professor of Mathematics at Bond University where he teaches Business Mathematics as well as courses on problem solving. His research interests are in all aspects of mathematical modelling, including recreational activities and sport. He has developed expertise in bushfire modelling and slow viscous flows. His current other research interest is in mathematics education at all levels. He was the Founding Director of the A.C.T. Mathematics Centre which now travels Australia as the Questacon Travelling Maths Centre. He contributes every quarter to the Australian Mathematics Teacher Journal through his Discovery articles. He has directed three ANZIAM conferences in the past, four Mathematics and Sport Conferences, and recently the first Australian Conference on Mathematics and Art.

His other hobbies are surf lifesaving, orienteering and contract bridge.
