The Big Day In
will be held
at the
Stamford Grand, North Ryde, NSW,
on
15-16 February 2007.
This year nearly 80 students undertaking CSIRO or ICE-EM/AMSI vacation scholarships
will take part in two days of activity.
As in 2006, Chris Krishna-Pillay will facilitate and introduce
well-known CSIRO and university scientists on the topic "So you
want to be a scientist?" and the Comedy Debate. See the

What students had to say about Big Day
In and being a CSIRO Vacation Scholar
Feedback from students gave a very positive and optimistic
view of the experience. Highest rating of the positive aspects given by
students were supervisors' guidance and involvement, as well as
challenging and rewarding projects. Benefits were "hands on" experience,
skill building, relationship building, making career contacts, experience
in a self-sufficient environment, exposure to real life work protocols and
presentation
What are Vacation Student Scholarships?
|
The scholarships are intended to provide students with the
opportunity to work on a real-world problem and to develop future
links with a number of divisions of CSIRO.
Undertaking a project has
influenced previous scholarship holders in their choice of further
study and future career. Many have gone on to undertake PhD’s in CSIRO
and to be employed in senior positions in CSIRO, universities and
industry. The scholarships are open to students who have completed
at least 3 years of Undergraduate study and who have maintained a
credit average or better. The scholarship rate is approximately $550
per week. Placements are from November to February for a period of 8
to 12 weeks. |
