Mineral Processing

CSIRO mathematicians develop and apply a range of technologies to assist the mining and mineral processing industries in diverse processes, including:

webGF-Mill®, a tool for modelling mills

webGF-Mill® is an Internet-based simulation tool, developed by CSIRO researchers, that uses the discrete element method to predict the motion of particles within ball, AG and SAG mills. webGF-Mill® can be used to model a large variety of mill sizes, lifter geometries, ball and rock distributions, and fill levels. It provides insight into the way mills operate and enables mill operators to improve efficiency, reduce costs and increase grinding performance.
