Finding the ASX200 for marine ecosystems - Researchers are building
the environmental equivalent of the ASX200 as a means of monitoring the
health of Australian marine ecosystems. The state of an ecosystem can be
understood by measuring the right ecological characteristics, just as the
ASX200 index shows the state of the Australian stock market by following
200 selected stocks.

Opals set to shine with new grading technology - CSIRO and a
consortium of Australian Opal miners (Opal Producers Australia Limited)
have unveiled the world’s first automated device to grade opals using
image analysis, at the 2009 National Council of Jewellery Valuers forum in
Sydney.

Exotic maths making finance a less risky business - CSIRO has extended
its partnership and licensing agreement with GFI
FENICS, the market standard for pricing and analysing Foreign-exchange
(FX) options.
The new agreement extends the provision of novel mathematical methods to
FENICS customers worldwide via CSIRO’s exotic options pricing software.

Australia’s top models at science conference - Australia's top models
will take centre stage in Cairns this week as scientists meet to discuss
ways to understand climate change, improve air safety and enhance
agricultural sustainability.
The IMACS/MODSIM Congress will attract more than 650 experts in modelling
and simulation from Australia and overseas to the Cairns Convention Centre
from July 13-17, 2009.
