About the Symposium   Back to Contents

This symposium is the sixth in a series of international workshops devoted to the area of mathematical morphology and its applications in image and signal processing. The scientific program will include invited talks and contributed papers. The size of the workshop will be limited in order to enable interaction between the participants.

While morphological image/signal processing remains the core topic for ISMM2002, presentations on related areas will be welcome. Related topics of specific interest include, but are not limited to:
  • PDE methods
  • Discrete geometry for image analysis
  • Probabilistic methods
  • 3D image analysis
  • Scale space

Registration

Early registration (before February 28, 2002):  A$ 800
Late registration (after February 28, 2002):  A$ 900
Early student registration (before February 28, 2002):  A$ 400
Late student registration (after February 28, 2002):  A$ 450

Information for Presenters

The length of presentations is 30 minutes. We recommend 25 minutes for each talk and 5 minutes for questions.

What's available for the tutorials?

  1. Two Dell Latitude laptops
    - Laptops will be running Microsoft Windows 2000 SP2 with Office 2000 suite
    - There are 2 laptops to choose from. One is a Dell Latitude C600 ( PIII 850Mhz) and the other is a Dell Latitude CPx ( PIII 500Mhz)
    - A cordless mouse and a laser pointer will be provided.
  2. A portable Sony LCD Projector ( model VPL-X600), a portable overhead projector ( Kodak L7) and a trolley, an 8' tripod screen, a whiteboard and a flipchart with pens/markers.

If you need extra resources ( computing, hardware, software) please contact us as soon as possible. We may be able to help you. If you have queries about the resources provided, email us also.

What's available for Platform Presentations?

  1. Two Dell Latitude laptops
    - These are the laptops listed above.
  2. A portable Sony LCD Data Projector ( model VPL-X600M), a portable overhead projector ( Kodak L7) and a trolley, an 8' tripod screen, a whiteboard and a flipchart with pens/markers.
  3. A lectern with microphone, a lapel microphone (Shure UHF radio mic) and a Bose Audio System.

Again, if you need more resources or have queries of what's available please contact us as soon as possible. We may be able to help you.

For Presenters:

  1. It is advisable to copy/burn your presentations on to CD. This will allow you to load your presentations/demonstrations/images easily with our laptops.
  2. Presentations made using the Microsoft Office 2000 suite or in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format are preferred. However, if you prefer other formats please let us know as soon as possible. We will try to help you.
  3. If you intend to bring your own laptop ensure the following,
    - the power supplies are compatible, ie. 240-250v @ 50-60Hz for Australia
    - bring associated cables, external mouse, universal power plugs, etc.
    - you have a laptop that is capable of VGA output to a portable LCD projector ( try this if you can; this is to ensure that we'll spend little time setting up your laptop and hence more time for your presentation).

An added bonus:

  1. We'll be setting up 3 personal computers with ISDN internet access. This will be our mini Internet cafe.
    - PCs will be running Microsoft Windows 2000 SP2 with Office 2000 suite.
    - Web-based access to email will be provided via Internet Explorer and Netscape.
    - There will be an SSH terminal via TerraTerm Pro.
    - We will allow laptop owners to connect to the Internet via our network setup. The viability of this is currently being assessed. We'll keep you posted.

If you need extra resources please let us know as soon as possible, however we're not giving this priority over other extra requirements for presenters.

Tutorials

Please note that the "Mathematical Morphology: Theory and Applications" has been cancelled.

Two tutorials entitled

will be held on April 2 at the Manly Pacific Hotel. Follow the links above for more information about the content of the tutorials.

Copies of the Proceedings

Copies of the proceedings can be ordered separately here.

About the Venue

ISMM 2002 will be held at the Manly Pacific Hotel in Sydney, Australia. Manly Beach is one of the countries beautiful ocean beaches and is only a ferry ride across the harbour from the Sydney central business district.

There are a multitude of things to see and  do in Manly including visits to Oceanworld (a fine aquarium) and the adjacent Art Gallery and Museum which has a lot on local history and beach culture. Straight ahead from the Manly wharf is The Corso, a pedestrian mall full of shops and eateries, which leads to the surf beaches. From the beach, a gentle walk will take you to pretty Shelley Beach. Le Kiosk is a delightful restaurant for lunch and this is also a good spot for a beach scuba dive.

A half hour ferry ride across the harbour will take you to the centre of Sydney and provide magnificent views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. There are many places to visit in the city including the historic Rocks area, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Government House, the Botanical Gardens, the Domain , the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Darling Harbour (great restaurants and shops), Taronga Park Zoo (these animals have a terrific view!), Parramatta (a delightful trip on a River Cat past the Sydney Olympic site) and a host of other destinations. The city is surrounded by National Parks and the breath-taking Blue Mountains which make for a wonderful day trip.
