Abstract

C. Sun and D. Si, "Fast Reflectional Symmetry Detection Using Fourier Transform", Journal of Real-Time Imaging, vol.5, no.1, pp.63-74, February 1999.

A simple and fast reflectional symmetry detection algorithm has been developed in this paper. The algorithm employs only the original grey scale image and the gradient information, and does not require any prior segmentation of the input image. The directions of the symmetry axes are obtained from the gradient orientation histogram by using Fourier method. Both simulated and real images have been tested using the proposed algorithm.

Keywords--Reflectional symmetry detection; Gradient orientation histogram; Fourier transform .
