Water Quality Strategy

The major aim of the project was to develop a generic water quality monitoring program for rivers, streams and groundwater within the SE Queensland region of Australia.

More specifically, this project has:

  • Developed a classification system for the freshwaters of the region
  • Identified appropriate indicators for assessing water quality (vis ecological health)
  • Identified water quality guidelines appropriate to the principal classes of waters
  • Undertaken pilot studies to test indicators, assess variability and to develop appropriate guidelines
  • Designed an effective coordinated monitoring and assessment program for freshwaters of the region which will be able to measure and report on current and future changes in water quality and ecological condition
